Laser & Health Academy experts, in cooperation with the Josef Stefan Institute’s Light and Matter Department and the University of Ljubljana’s Biotechnical Faculty have published a paper outlining the results of their study on the physical properties of Quasi Continuous Wave pulsed, 1064 nm, Nd:YAG laser in lipolysis.

Fotona and the European Society for Laser Dermatology (ESLD) have engaged in an agreement through which Fotona becomes an official industry member of the organization.

Dr. Ron Kaminer is the Newest Expert Clinical Lecturer for the Laser and Health Academy. In his inaugural lecture he presented a series of cases. The performance of each case was filmed live during the procedure. The cases illustrated the full breadth of conventional dental treatments possible with a Fotona Nd:YAG laser.

Fotona and the Laser and Health Academy announce that Dr. Paul Steventon has become the newest member on the Academy’s board of Clinical Expert Lecturers. Representing the UK-based Epsom Skin Clinic and Forever Young Medical Aesthetics, Dr. Steventon will be working actively with Fotona and the Academy on advancing medical, technical and scientific knowledge, particularly in the field of laser lipolysis and laser-assisted liposuction.

Hong Kong-based, Dr. Seto Siu Keung was recently awarded the title of Expert Clinical Lecturer by the Laser and Health Academy for his contributions to laser dentistry. Dr. Seto is an active member of the WFLD and is an academic co-worker of the Aachen Dental Laser Center at the RWTH Aachen University (Germany), where he obtained a Masters Degree in Lasers in Dentistry in 2007.

During the recent 6th International Fotona Meeting in Portoroz, Slovenia, the Laser and Health Academy welcomed Mark Whiteley as its latest Expert Clinical Lecturer. Mr. Mark Whiteley is a UK-based Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon and an innovator in the field of endovenous surgery. With his team at the internationally renowned The Whiteley Clinic, where he uses Fotona’s XP-2 laser system, he has performed over a thousand EVLA procedures.

Researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana, have published new research results in association with the Laser and Health Academy, from their on-going research which compares the ablation performance between Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers in hard dental tissues.

In co-operation with the Laser and Health Academy, Dr. Leonardo Marini of the Skin Doctors’ Laser Centre in Trieste (Italy) has published a Clinical Bulletin on the novel SPF-RR technique. This new treatment modality combines VSP Er:YAG laser with scanner-assisted Nd:YAG laser for skin rejuvenation and was recently presented at the 10th International Congress of Dermatology in Prague.

On March 13th, 2009 Dr. Kresimir Simunovic was invited by Fotona to join the Laser and Health Academy as its newest Clinical Expert Lecturer. During his visit to Fotona and the Laser and Health Academy he presented an extensive overview of his most current experiences in laser-assisted dentistry in daily dental practice.

The Laser and Health Academy has published a new paper on "The Treatment of Saphenous Vein Occlusion by Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) with a 1064nm VSP Nd:YAG Laser". The study conducted by the Academy Clinical Expert Lecturer, Dr. Andrej Šikovec, describes the EVLA procedure and results of EVLA procedures conducted on 525 legs over a 2.5 year period at the Avelana Vein Clinic. The overall conclusion of the study is that the 1064nm VSP Nd:YAG laser is an effective and safe EVLA treatment modality. It poses a minimal risk of side effects and demonstrates excellent success rates.

Fotona and the Laser and Health Academy welcome Dr. Reinhard Gansel, M.D., D.A.L.M., and Dr. Sormaz, D.D.S., to the Academy’s board of Clinical Expert Lecturers. Both will be working actively with Fotona and the Academy on advancing medical, technical and scientific knowledge in the field of Lasers and their application in Medicine and Dentistry.
